Version 4.19.3 Program Code for Astro-Physics GTO Keypad

The firmware of the Astro-Physics GTO Keypad controller can be updated to version 4.19.3 from this page by following the procedures below. This firmware contains all program logic for the functions, menus, entry screens and all other aspects concerned with the operation of the keypad. It also includes the calculated values of the solar system objects and calibration stars. The keypad version number displays when you start your keypad. If you need to download the object database firmware, please refer to either of these links for details:

Keypads with version 4.19.3 can be used with the following control boxes: GTOCP1, GTOCP2, GTOCP3 and GTOCP4. However, if your GTOCP4 has version P02-01 or later firmware, refer to Version 4.19.5 for Astro-Physics GTO Keypad-Code Load Only.

* * Check These Before You Start * *

• GTOCP1 or GTOCP2 servo control box. Check version of the ROM chip in the your GTO servo control box. It must be dated later than January 22, 2001 to enable this flash update process and utilize all the features in this version of the keypad. You can check this by removing the cover of the GTO control box and checking the date written on a label attached to the ROM chip. Please contact Astro-Physics if you need to order a new chip.


• All GTOCP3 and GTOCP4 control boxes can be used to update your Keypad firmware.


• GTOCP1, GTOCP2 and GTOCP3: Straight-thru serial cable is required. You cannot use a "null modem or crosswired" cable. In recent years, all mounts were shipped with the proper serial cable. If you do not have one, you can order a 15' cable from Astro-Physics. We recommend USB-to-serial adapters with the FTDI chip or the Keyspan adapters. We do not recommend USB to serial adapters with Prolific chips.


• GTOCP4: Straight-thru serial cable is required. USB, Ethernet and WiFi downloads are not supported at this time for the Keypad updates. If you are using a serial cable, You cannot use a "null modem or crosswired" cable. In recent years, all mounts were shipped with the proper serial cable. If you do not have one, you can order a 15' cable from Astro-Physics. As stated above, if you must use a USB-to-serial adapters, be sure that it has an FTDI chip. We have also had success with Keyspan adapters. We do not recommend USB to serial adapters with Prolific chips.


• Control box, Keypad, power cable and power supply (or battery) are required for the upload. The upload procedure to the keypad requires that the program be routed through the ROM chip in the GTO control box. In order to accomplish this, your control box must be set up with power near your PC. The mount and motor cables are not required.


• Windows-based computer required for upload.


• User name and password to access the download area of our website. This information was provided in the cover letter shipped with your mount. If you do not have the user name and password, contact Astro-Physics. If your name is not already registered in our GTO database, we will ask for your mount or keypad serial number to assure that you are authorized to access this area of our website. We suggest that you fill out and submit the mount registration form.

IMPORTANT - Uninstall any previous versions of the Keypad firmware from your computer before installing the new files.
